Jubilee Trousers

I just finished these trousers for my little boy to wear to the Queen's Jubilee celebration in our village on Monday! They are the Treasure Pocket Pants from Sewing for Boys. My mom (jerry&kay) gave me the book for Mother's Day and this is the first chance I've had to make something from it. There's a sew-a-long for the book going on at boy, oh, boy, oh, boy but I just can't keep up!

Here they are with just the hem.

Here they are with the hem rolled up.
This is probably how my little guy will wear them. He tends to be thicker but shorter than most. :-)
I'm excited for him to try them on tomorrow and hope they fit!

One thing I learned from making these trousers is what "bar tack" means. I like it.

My favorite part are the pockets. I hope Canaan stores lots of his treasures in them!

I also loved how the waistline was done with two narrower pieces of elastic instead of just one wide one.

I'll post pictures soon of them on my little guy as well as my little girl's Jubilee dress with its finishing touches!

Happy Jubilee! :-)

  1. These are such cute, little pants, Jessica... just perfect for a little boy. Love the fabric combination and those pockets on the side. I didn't know what bar tack stitches were till now... now I do. Enjoy the Queen's Jubilee celebrations. No doubt we'll be watching some of it on the TV.

    1. Thanks! He looked so cute of them. And, yes we enjoyed the celebrations. It's such a great time to be living in England!

  2. I LOVE THEM!!!!!!...we are watching the Jubilee right now on looks very cold in London today:(....I have no idea what bar tack stitches are! The fabric you chose is so fun!!!!!
Hope these pants come visit California so we can see them on Canaan and also Evie's dress. we can play jubilee and Corey is the queen:):)

    1. It was definitely cold and very wet on Sunday and Monday. I was glad in the end that we didn't make the trip into London for the flotilla.
Of course the pants will come to California. Canaan loved glad! The top of Evie's dress turned light pink when I washed it cause I totally forgot to wash the fabric before I made it. Oh, well. Good thing she likes pink. :-)

  3. So cute! I have the same book and love it! I've only used this pattern to make shorts so far, but the pockets are so much fun. I looove the fabric you chose!

    1. Thanks! I love the book so far and am excited to make for from it. I'm glad you like the fabric. I wasn't sure about it (thought they looked a little pajama-ish) until I put the pants on my little guy. He was happy, so I was too! I took a look at your shorts...they're super cute! I love the buttons!

  4. Adorable and w/ nice big pockets for all his treasures:)

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit my blog. I'd love to hear from you!
