Valentine's Day Coffee Cup Sleeves

Valentines Day Coffee Cup Sleeve

Coffee Cup Sleeves are always a quick, easy, and fun project to make, so I decided to crochet some for Valentine's Day!

Valentines Day Coffee Cup Sleeve

These coffee cup sleeves are made from recycled denim yarn, which makes them extra good for the environment. You can use them again and again without having to waste the cardboard sleeves that most coffee shops use.

Valentines Day Coffee Cup Sleeve

To make this recycled yarn, the denim fabric is broken down and then the fibers are re-spun into yarn! Cool, right?

Heart Coffee Cup Sleeve

We've got these Heart Cup Sleeves available in our Etsy shop, Sunshine Makings. They would make perfect Valentine's Day gifts for just about anyone: teachers, friends, family, co-workers, or a secret crush!

Mint Green & Grey Fingerless Gloves

crocheted fingerless mittens

Today, I am happy to show two different styles of crocheted fingerless gloves - one that I made and one from my mom.

mint green fingerless mittens

These mint green fingerless gloves are made from acrylic/wool blend yarn and are long enough to cover most of your fingers.

crocheted fingerless mittens

I love the color because it's nice to see a bright color during the 100 days of darkness, which is our name for the shorter winter days.

These cute grey fingerless mittens aren't as bright, but you can't go wrong with grey.

These fingerless mittens are an easy pair to wear and look adorable on anyone. I mean this when I say it because I saw more than a few ladies try them on at two craft fairs I sold at recently (more to come on that). They were my biggest seller!

You can find both of these styles and colors in our Etsy shop, Sunshine Makings.

Organic Cotton Cowl

Organic Cotton Cowl by Sunshine Makings

Here is a new creation crocheted from one of my favorite yarns by Lion Brand - Nature's Choice Organic Cotton. It is a super soft Organic Cotton Cowl. I can't claim credit for this gorgeous cowl, though, because it was made by my mom (jerryandkay).

Organic Cotton Cowl by Sunshine Makings

I've use the same organic cotton for a variety of crochet projects, including a mug cozy (free pattern here), coffee cup sleeve, and baby blanket for my sister who's little boy is just one week old. :)
My favorites are the baby blanket and cowl.

Christmas in July (2)

christmas coffee cup sleeve

I finally had a chance to get the pictures together of a few more things my mom and I have made for Christmas in July. Since I love coffee and really don't like to waste the cardboard cup sleeves, we made some Christmas cup sleeves.

My mom made these adorable beaded Christmas trees and appliqued them to the red cozy. Festive, right? (It feels a little strange to be festive one day and at the beach that same afternoon, but it's made it easier for me to read Christmas books to my little girl who likes them all year long.)

Christmas Potholders

We also made some Christmas potholder sets from a vintage pattern my mom has in an old crochet pattern book. I love the red, white, and festive variegated colors of this set.

Christmas in July Potholders

We also made one with Christmas crocheted Christmas trees stitched onto the white potholders. Aren't they cute! I'll be making quite a few of these to hopefully sell at a couple holiday fayres and fetes. And I'm sure we'll come up with even more festive crochet items.

If you would like any of these, you can find them in my Etsy shop, Sunshine Makings

Christmas in July

Christmas in July

My mom (Jerry&Kay) and I thought it would be fun to get a little festive this summer and celebrate Christmas in July! So, we spent some time planning, shopping, and making this assortment of holiday crocheted items. We created some of our own patterns and also used some vintage patterns from a crochet book from the 60s that my mom has had, in her words, "forever."

Christmas in July

And we are offering 15% off all Christmas items in the shop and a variety of other items. We created this cheerful mug cozy and coaster set that has an elegant touch with beading on the Christmas tree and a special bead button. We have options for a larger Starbucks sized mug or a standard souvenir sized mug.

Christmas in July

My mom made these beautiful poinsettia doilies. I thought they were also from a vintage pattern, but she just informed me that she found the pattern in Crochet 101 by Deborah Burger. She made a set of four 6-inch doilies and an individual 8-inch one.

Christmas in July

I really enjoyed crocheting this adorable elf baby hat. I have admired this style of baby hat for a long time and added a bit of whimsy with the bubbly edge and extra large pom pom.

Here is a closer look at the Christmas tree on the mug cozy.

If you would like any of these, you can find them in my Etsy shop, Sunshine Makings.

Chevron Baby Blanket

Chevron Baby Blanket

I made this chevron baby blanket for the same friends from the baby shower that I helped decorate a few weeks ago. They chose the specific colors and wanted a chevron design because that's what the dad-to-be had when he was a child. I love that.

Chevron Baby Blanket

I created an alternating pattern using the four colors: plum, lavender, grey, and blue. The chevron baby blanket is crocheted with two strands of double knit yarn to make it extra cozy.

Chevron Baby Blanket

It was my first time ever crocheting anything with a chevron or ripple or wave pattern and I really enjoyed it...so much so that I'm offering one of these same chevron baby blankets in my Etsy shop, Sunshine Makings. It will be the same colors and same design, but I can always take custom orders if you have other colors that you love. Or, if you'd rather make your own, I have the pattern available here for free!

Baby Hats

crochet baby hats

crochet baby hats

Last week, I showed a few baby blankets that I made recently. Today, I'm showing my favorite baby hats. You can find them all in my and my mom's Etsy shop, Sunshine Makings.

With the exception of the pink and grey hat, these are all crocheted with the softest bamboo yarn.

It is so silky smooth it feels like it might melt into my fingers. I absolutely love it for baby items because babies should have the softest of everything on their delicate skin.

The bamboo also has a slight silky shine to it as you can see in this white, blue, and green baby hat.
