Blue Ripple Crochet Mug Cozy - Free Pattern

mug cozy crochet pattern

One of my obsessions this year have been mug and cup cozies. If you follow along, you've seen quite a few, including my recycled denim mug cozy and the variety of cup sleeves that my mom (Kay from Jerry and Kay) and I sell in our Etsy shop. Well, today, I'd like to share with you one of my latest creations - a crochet pattern for this lovely blue ripple crochet mug cozy. It is a great project for crocheters of all levels and if you don't crochet, you can find one here in my Etsy shop. I love wrapping it around my mug in the morning, knowing it will keep my coffee warm for those few minutes more.

Recycled Denim Mug Cozy - free crochet pattern

Recycled Denim Mug Cozy - free crochet pattern - Sunny Stitching

Here is my latest crochet mug cozy design. I used the recycled denim yarn I had originally intended for King Damascus's hat that failed.

I couldn't find any mug cozy crochet patterns online that I loved and I wanted this mug cozy to be more masculine since it was for a guy...my guy.

So, I made my own mug cozy pattern and it's also a free mug cozy crochet pattern for you!

Infinity Scarf

Infinty Scarf : Sunny Stitching

This is my newly finished infinity scarf. It's really warm and cozy. I want to wear it all the time.

Infinty Scarf : Sunny Stitching

I crocheted the infinity scarf using a stitch from my new Crochet Stitch Bible that I got in my stocking at Christmas ...Thanks, Mom!

Infinty Scarf : Sunny Stitching

I love the book, although I'm not a huge fan of the name. I really don't think any other book should be called a bible except for the Bible! Anyway, the book is fabulous, full of tips, great pictures, and best of all, full of over 200 crochet stitches.

Infinty Scarf : Sunny Stitching

It goes along perfectly with my new goal of writing my own patterns (check out The Crochet Challenge on JJCrochet). Hopefully, I'll have this infinity scarf pattern written soon...and free for you just like the slouchy ribbed hat crochet pattern.

* UPDATE: This infinity scarf is now available in my shop, Sunshine Makings. Click here to see it. *

Slouchy Hat Crochet Pattern

Ribbed Slouchy Hat Free Pattern : Sunny Stitching

I'm a little nervous writing this post because I'm about to do something that I've never done before: share a crochet pattern that I wrote. It's a free crochet pattern for a slouchy hat. Do you want to know the story behind it? If not, skip to the bottom where you'll find a link to the free pattern. If so, read on...

Ribbed Slouchy Hat Free Pattern : Sunny Stitching

My cousin-in-law came to visit us in England on his way back to California for Christmas. While he was here, we did our little family Christmas, gave gifts to the kids and each other. Well, before Evan came, I thought I'd crochet a hat to give him at our family's Christmas celebration. Then, as usual, I ran out of time. So I wrapped up a ball of yarn and gave him that instead with the promise of crocheting a hat from the yarn. Since the hat was no longer a surprise, he got to choose the style and chose a slouchy hat. I found a really nice one by cocoknits on Ravelry, bought the yarn and when I sat down to make it, I realized (1) I did not have enough yarn and (2) the pattern was for a knit slouchy hat!! I was clearly preoccupied with other things (Christmas, California, etc) when I was getting organized for this project. Ugh.

The struggle did not end there. I loved the knit slouchy hat and decided to simply convert the knit slouchy hat pattern to a crochet slouchy hat pattern. How hard could it be? I found a 'how-to' that looked good and wrote down all kinds of notes and scribbles. By now, a few days had passed and we were flying to California. However, we were there for 10 days...plenty of time to make a silly old hat. How did I forget that there is no free time during Christmas??? At some point the busy-ness slowed down and I was finally able to crochet the slouchy hat using my new conversions. I finished it. It was HUGE! Where did I go wrong? I still have no idea, but it was somewhere in my conversion from knit to crochet. I'll solve that problem another day.

For now, I'll skip all the other troublesome happenings I encountered along the way of crocheting this slouchy hat and go straight to the end result so that you don't get too bored. I crocheted this slouchy hat at least four times before I got it right. It was worth it. I really like it. I hope Evan likes it. If he doesn't like it, I hope he can find someone to give it to who likes it.

AND...I hope you like it!
If you do, you can make your own with my free pdf pattern.
